Located in northwestern Gozo between the villages of Xaghra and Zebbug, it has transformed from a small fishing village to Gozo’s main seaside resort. Winters from December-March are short and mild with some rainfall. Occasional cold winds from central Europe will drop the temperatures down a few degrees to between 12°-14°C. Spring and fall are pleasant with temperatures around 22-25 ° The hottest summer months are July-September when days can heat up to as much as 30 °C - 36°C and water temperatures are warm at 25°C to 27°C. The peak beach season can last till late October; sailing and windsurfing are popular activities. Many boats are moored here in summer.
Marsalforn has a small, crescent-shaped, pebbly black sandy beach. It is a landing point for boats and is a small harbor in which are berthed the traditional fishing trawlers. The quieter bays of Qbajjar and Qwejni are northwest of the main stretch.
Għar Qawla just off Marsalforn Bay is suitable for intermediate to expert sailors. There are cross-shore winds, but it is ideal when the southeast wind is blowing. The recommended launch site during the westerly and northwesterly winds is on the outer left side for the bay. The small and enclosed inlet at il-Menqa provides shelter for fishing boats and calm water for pleasure boating. When the winds blow north, north or west, windsurfers gravitate to Qbajjar.
Marsalforn is very well developed with a wide selection of accommodation from self catering apartments to upscale seaside hotels. There are many waterfront cafes and restaurants and its promenade is a hive of activity in the evenings. A regular bus service runs to Marsalforn and it is only 10 minutes by car from Victoria. A number of boat charter companies have offices here.
Seas can be rough in winter when the wind blows hard from the North East. Pounding waves reach the promenade due to a lack of a well-constructed breakwater.
